The public school system is a controversial subject on Oahu and in all of Hawaii. Generally speaking there has been a lot of criticism and there are some problem areas with the school system. For example, funding. Teachers were just recently told that they would have to take Friday furloughs on most Fridays, resulting in less teaching time for students. That is not to say that there are not well-regarded public schools on Oahu. And with anything, a lot of what your child will learn and what he or she gets out of school has to do with parenting and involvement in their education.
